Eliot Downs Kirkland In 27-7 League Final

With knees and elbows aflying, Eliot's powerful eleven took advantage of several Kirkland defensive lapses last Wednesday to grind out a 27 to 7 victory in the term's final House grid contest.

All this happened despite the presence of Marvin Jenkins in the Kirkland backfield. Which, together with the forward wall, lacked the blocking and line-play that a trained football team produces, and the Kirkland outfit was coachless since their first game.

Eliot Held in Second Half

The story of this game is the story of the second quarter. Leading 7 to 0, Eliot capitalized on several breaks to push across 20 points before the half had ended. One of these scores came on a fumbled kickoff recovered by Kavanaugh in the Kirkland end zone. In the second half, Kirkland began to play better ball and although lacking the coordination of Eliot, still carried the offensive.

Jenkins Scored

With three minutes to play and the ball deep in Kirkland territory, Jenkins went off tackle and slipped through a solid wall of would-be tacklers for a 49 years jaunt to the Eliot 35 yard stripe. On the next play, Eliot was set back half the distance to the goalline on a slugging penalty and it appeared as if their unscored-upon record would be broken. finally, in one of the best plays of the game, Jenkins knifed through center from the third to give Kirkland the distinction of having scored the only touchdown of the season against the Eliot eleven.

Adams Boats Lowell

In last Tuesday's battle between Lowell and the Goldcoasters, Fodor of Adams, passed, kicked, and ran his team to a 6 to 0 win. Featured by hard-hitting line-play and wide end runs, the victory toppled Lowell from second place and lifted the Goldcoasters to the league's runner-up position.

Coming suddenly in the third period, the game's only score saw Fodor gather in a pass on the Lowell 30 and gallop down the sidelines to go into the end-zone standing up.

Eliot Easily the Best

Summarizing the term's grid season it is apparent that Eliot was far and away the class of the league. And if in the excitement of a game they became rather rough, they always made friends after the game. Adams and Lowell fielded good representatives teams while Kirkland was hampered by lack of practice.
