NAVAL OFFICE NEEDS V-5 MEN

Changed in Draft Directives Will Encourage Enlistment

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Naval procurement officials today pointed out the great opportunities and need for men in the V-5 and SV-5 aviation programs, especially in the face of recent changes in the Selective Service directives. Emphasized was the fact that 17-year-olds are eligible for the V-5, while men between 18 and 26 may enter the SV-5.

Important changes in the draft were announced by Washington, involving increased induction of younger men. Occupational deferments for men under 22 and deferments for students not on active duty or in the enlisted reserve will be renewed only under exceptional circumstances.

The V-5 and SV-5 programs are designed to enroll large numbers of men, and the immediate need for them is great. For trained men Naval aviation offers highly technical work as well as a commission as a Naval Ensign or a Marine Corps Second Lieutenant. Men facing immediate induction in the face of the new Selective Serive rulings have an opportunity to receive intensive training culminating in a commission.
