Departure from standard Army policy was indicated yesterday as Shannon Hall announced the expected arrival of some 300 men who will be classified as ASTP Reserve and wear civilian clothes. The men will drill and take some classes with the Army ROTC here.
The exact composition of the group was not known yesterday, and the Army had not known yesterday, and the Army had not yet definitely decided where they would live, but they will be part of ASTP Company E, and may follow through in the original plans for Company E to help occupy still empty Winthrop House.
STAR Men Work
Meanwhile, the 83 men who arrived last week from STAR units at the University of New Hampshire and the College of the City of New York have been put to work drilling and doing menial garden tasks for the Army. They are working while awaiting their first classes, which are still nearly a month away.
The new men are quartered in Mather Hall and mess in the dining hall with Company A. Of the 83, ten will go to Company C to study advanced engineering, while the other 73 will be assigned to Company D for the study of basic engineering.
Four hundred other men are expected to arrive here sometime between now and September 13 to join the ASTP units here. No news has been received of this contingent since August 5, however.
