Captain Bernard A. Merriam, leader of Company A in Leverett House, and Lt. Commander Frederick W. Hesser, of the NSCS, both received promotions for the work they have done at their respective schools.
Merriam was awarded his Oak Leaf soon after General Miles made his inspection of the ASTC quarters in Leverett. Merriam was responsible for the speedy conversion of the Bunnies former lodging into Army barracks. His men greeted his promotion with much enthusiasm.
Hesser received his three stripes and the "scrambled eggs" for his cap visor while he was in Washington. As one of the Junior Officers he has been the Executive of the Navy Supply Corps School across the river.
