Assignment of Commandants of several Army schools has been made by special Order No. 3 from Headquarters, Army Training Schools. The order includes a consolidation of some schools already here as well as preparation for units not yet arrived.
Captain Bernard A. Merriam, former Executive Officer of the Training Schools, has been designated as Commandant of the Army Specialized Training Corps. This group is expected to be the largest single military unit in the University, but its date of inception has not yet been announced.
Captain Fairbanks Heads Med School
Commandant of the Medical Training School is Captain Russell N. Fairbanks, who has been instructor of Military Science, will have charge of the Army contingent at the Harvard Medical School, which will be activated about July 1. Captain William Magruder is Commandant of the Army Miscellaneous Training Schools, including smaller groups of officers unattached to any of the organized units.
At the same time, Captain Nelson Miles has been assigned as Executive Officer of the Training Schools in general, succeeding Captain Merriam. Lieutenant Chester T. Corse becomes Assistant Adjutant of the Schools.
Corps Will Be In Houses
The exact content of the so-called "Specialized Training Corps" is not clear, but apparently it will include such large enlisted groups as the Basic Engineering and Basic Pre-Med courses. Most members of the Corps are expected to live in Leverett and Winthrop Houses, according to University releases.
Captain Magruder's "Miscellaneous" command will include such groups as the Soil Engineers now studying airport construction. As head of Army personnel at the Med School, Captain Fair-banks will take care of such administrative duties as leaves, discipline, and any military training.
