PHILLIPS OF TUFTS LEADS IN CROSS COUNTRY RACE

Crimson's Tuttle and Mason Trail Winner

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Fighting his way through a slight blizzard as well as the tough 3.7 mile course along the Charles, Tufts Roy Phillips won Saturday's informal cross country meet, which included runners from Boston College and Harvard.

Phillips turned in the good time of 19:06, just five seconds slower than Tim Coggeshall's record clocking a week before. The promised duel between Phillips and Coggeshall could not be realized because the Crimson cinderman contracted German measules, but the two boys will meet again later this month.

Much Crimson Improvement

Jaakko Mikkola was most gratified by the improvement over last weekend shown by many of the Crimson harriers, despite the poor conditions. Mark Tuttic and Henry Mason, who finished second and third, chopped several seconds from their times, while Jim Foley, who finished behind Mason, was a minute better. Ray Brown, Ben Coggins, Cliff Downer and Mat Dick also improved on last week's performances.

Rhode Island State makes an unpected appearance at the Stadium this Saturday afternoon, in an informal track meet. This sudden schedule change puts back the University Handicap meet one week, to April 16 and 17.
