Theobold Orders Switch to White Caps, Summer Dress

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

White caps will make their 1948 debut tomorrow for naval personnel in the New England area, according to the orders of Rear Admiral Robert A. Theobald, Commandant First Naval District. Because of the weather, which has been as dependable as Hitler, optional wearing of the following is authorized starting May 1.

For officers and Chief Petty Officers, the choice is made form the blue service dress with white caps, white service dress, khaki working uniform, and slate gray working uniform if available. When khaki or slate gray is worn, the blouse may be removed indoors. Garrison caps must be the same color as the uniform worn.

White will be the attire at all official functions, but on occassions where semi-formal civilian dress is in mode, service dress blue, D, can be donned, unless otherwise directed. A turned down collar or standing wing collar may be used when service dress blue, D, is prescribed.
