STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTS OFFICERS FOR SUMMER

In a meeting Wednesday night to decide the future of the Student Council, Dean M. Hennessy '45, of the Varsity Club and Chicago, was elected President, Frank S. Whiting '46, of Lowell House and Torrance, California was elected Secretary, and Andrew W. Welch, Jr. '44, of Leverett House and West Roxbury was chosen Treasuror.

Hennessy, Captain-elect of the basketball squad, is a member of the Committee for the Regulation of Athletics. Whiting is chairman of the Freshman Class Committee and Welch is Secretary of the Class of '44.

The Council voted to continue throughout the summer with civilians and men in naval programs both participating. But if men in uniform are unable to continue their extra-curricular activities, and if the workings of the Navy do not correlate with those of the Council, their functions will revert entirely to civilians.

The Council also issued a report of the dispensation of the funds collected through the pledges made last September $1500 went to the War Fund, $2000 for scholarships, $1450 to the Red Cross, and $500 to the World Student Service.

$4000 went to Phillips Brooks House, $85 for the Ames Prizes, and $300 was expended for Council expenses. The Committee on Consumer's Aid will also continue activities this summer. This Committee, at present, is holding an investigation of certain valeterias around Cambridge. During the first week in April placards were placed in the Houses upon which undergraduates were invited to inscribe their complaints. It is hoped that action to force these valeterias to abandon unfair business practices will be taken in the near future.
