AMES PRIZES WON BY FOUR; COUNCIL PROBES MERCHANTS

The annual Ames Awards for outstanding qualities of character and leadership have been presented to two members from each of the Classes of 1943 and 1944, the Student Council announced last night.

Receiving the prizes were Adelbert Ames, 3rd '43, of Hanover, New Hampshire, George M. Burditt, Jr. '44, of La Grange, Illinois, Hugh M. Hyde '44, of New York City, and John Richardson, Jr. '43, of Milton.

Ames First Marshal

Ames was First Marshal of his Class, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the ski team, and the Student Council Committee on Curriculum and Tenure. Burditt, also First Marshal of his Class, was in addition to this, president of the Student Council and Phillips Brooks House, and captain of the basketball team.

Hyde was secretary of the Student Council and a member of the tennis team. After Burditt's departure he was chosen as president of the Council and captain of the basketball team. Richardson was treasurer of the Student Council and secretary of Phillips Brooks House. He was also secretary of his Class.

In Memory of Brothers

The award is given each year to men who display the qualities typified by Richard Glover Ames '34, and his brother, Henry Russell Ames '38, who were drowned in a vain attempt to save their father, washed overboard during a trans-Atlantic yacht race.

A committee consisting of the Dean of the College, Mrs. Robert R. Ames, and the three officers of the Student Council were in charge of choosing the recipients of the award.
