Keene Gains Post of Third Class Marshal

Close Race Is Settled By One Vote Margin

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Thomas V. Keene of Winthrop House and Indianapolis, Indiana, has been elected Third Marshal of the Class of 1945, it was announced last night after a final recount of the ballots had been completed.

Only one vote behind Keene in the voting was Richard W. Mechem, and he was followed, again by a one vote margin, by Dean M. Hennessey. Sidney O, Smith, Jr. was five votes behind, with a total of 140.

Results Delayed

The closeness of the race had made it impossible for the results to be announced yesterday with those of the other positions on the ballot, for recounts were not completed in time for inclusion in Monday's CRIMSON. Today's results, however, are definite and final.

Keene is treasurer of the Student Council and last year served on the Smoker Committee. A member of the Varsity basketball and soccer squads this year, he captained the Yardling basketball team in his Freshman year.

Balloting for the election was carried on Thursday and Friday of last week, under the direction of Donald T. Trautman '46, representative of the Council and head of the committee in charge of the election procedure. No announcement has as yet been made on the question of when the remaining class positions will be filled. These include the Secretary, Permanent Class Committee, and the Class Day Committee.
