WITH THE AMERICAN AIR FORCES IN CHINA--Brig. Gen. Claire L. Chennault said today that Japan's aircraft reserves already appear to be exhausted and "there is an outside chance the Pacific War can be finished this year."

The canny, weather-beaten flier, who first who fame as leader of the American Volunteer Group of "Flying Tigers" in Burma and who now commands the U. S. Army Air Forces in China, said he based his optimism as to the length of the Pacific War on reports from the United Nations "Unconditional Surrender" conference at Casablanca.
