LONDON--Russian troops in a 15-mile advance have captured Izdeshkvo on the main Moscow-Vyazma-Smolensk railroad only 11 miles from the important Rurovo railroad junction, Russia's Thursday midnight communique announced today.

Driving from the east and north on Durove, first of three defense bastions before Smolensk, the Russians captured Izdeshkvo by storm and took several inhabited places in other sectors against the most desperate enemy resistance--a plain indication that the Germans realized the danger to Smolensk.
