WASHINGTON -- Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox said today the successful American war of attrition against Japanese shipping is weakening enemy communication lines into the South Pacific while the American position in the Solomons area is stronger than ever.

He told a press conference the Japs are experiencing "increasing difficulties" supplying their remote bases.
