Tribute was paid in a full page article of this week's issue of Look Magazine to President Conant. Stressing Conant's unpublicized contributions to the war effort from his chairman's position on the National Defense Research Committee, and his work on the Bavuch rubber commission, the magazine unstintingly praised his academic and military work.
As well as his war work, and the military conversion of Harvard to a total war effort in which Conant played a major role, the article predicted that the Harvard President's name would soon come into the spotlight. "Keep an eye on Conant of Harvard," it said, "-- scientist, educator, and man of ideas worth listening to."
This week Conant wrote an article for the New York Times Sunday Magazine. He emphasized the necessity of formulating "a general education for free men in a nation dedicated to the principle of educational opportunities for all"
