EUSDEN PACES SWIMMERS IN ARMY VICTORY

Captain Captures 2 Events As Mermen Triumph, 40-35

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Captain Johnny Eusden contributed his usual double victory to the Crimson swimming team yesterday morning, and the Varsity mermen were thus able to submerge a stubborn Army squad 40 to 35 at the Indoor Athletic Building.

Still feeling the loss of Bill Drucker and Bus Curwen, the Ulenmen fell behind in the first event, the 300 yard medley relay, and dropped back still further when the Cadets' Bill Glynn outswam Dave Barnes and George Christman in the 220 yard free style. It was the first Crimson home meet of the year in which Barnes and Christman failed to finish one-two in this event.

Eusden Again

Eusden soon put the Varsity back in the running with a 24.6 job in the 50 yard free style, John Watkins placing third, and Harvey Pastel's victory in the dive, coupled with Bob Aaron's third place, put the team even with the West Pointers.

Then Eusden won his other specialty, the 100 yard free style, with Don Perry third, and the Ulenmen assumed a lead they were never to relinquish. Hal Hartwell and Gibby King placed two-three in the backstroke, Barnes and Christman reverted to their normal first and second places in the 440, and Don Ulen pleased his father with a win in the 200 yard breast stroke. Aaron finishing third.

Army won the 400 yard relay when a Harvard swimmer jumped his start. It marked the third time this season the Crimson relay team has been disqualified for this offense. The Varsity now has a record of two wins and two losses in Ivy League competition
