TRACK TEAM BOWS IN INFORMAL MEET

Jaako Mikkola's track men journeyed to Medford last Saturday for a disastrous informal meeting with Tufts. Although the Crimson runners showed strength in the long distances, they were completely at a loss in the dashes.

Wharton captured first place in the high jump for Harvard with a height of five feet, eight inches. The Crimson distance men shut out Tufts completely in the 1000-yard run, taking first, second, and third. In the relay events they were equally successful. The sprint relay, in which each of the four men runs 440 yards, fell to the Mikkolamen, and this victory was followed by another in the medley relay of one, two, three, and four laps in succession.

Harvard's team was at a disadvantage in that they had no place to practice either the sprints or the hurdles. The practice track has no straightaway for the dashmen, and the hurdlers have had no real opportunity to practice adequately since summer. The encouraging performance, however, in the distances promises a strong nucleus for the next meets.
