Richard M. Gummere, Chairman of the Committee on Admissions, has announced that he will be a candidate for the Cambridge School Committee on the Plan E election November 2.
Gummere can boast of a rich background of educational positions and degrees. He had a faculty position at Haverford College, where he received his A.B. for ten years. He was the principal of William Penn Charter School from 1918 to 1934.
He earned his M.A. at Harvard in 1904, which was followed by a Ph.D. in '07. The University of Pennsylvania awarded him an A.M. in 1923. For three years he was chairman of the College Entrance Examination Board.
His community interests earned him the vice-presidency of the Haverford Township Public School Board. He was a member of the National Committee on the Cooperation in Secondary School Standards for five years. He was a member of the Red Cross in the Last War. He holds trustee positions in both Bryn Mawr and Haverford College.
