First major casualty among national undergraduate newspapers was the Brown Herald, which suspended publication last week after an unbroken history of more than 50 years.
The reason given for suspension was loss of man-power for putting out the paper. Exactly a year ago publication was reduced from daily to three times a week, and this was further out to twice a week later on.
This fall the paper's staff was out considerably by demands from the armed services, and finally the scarcity of editorial and business board members necessitated a termination of publication.
On the other side of the nation, the UCLA Daily Bruin joined the ranks of the Daily Pennsylvanian and others in cutting the size of their paper to tabloid form.
