LAMAR WILL COACH '46 FOOTBALL; STAHL SUCCEEDS TO JAYVEE POST

Henry Lamar has been appointed head coach of Freshman footabll, the H. A. A. announced yesterday. The former mentor of the Crimson's Jayvee team succeeds Chief Boston, now in the Army, who, when he was playing football for Harvard, was once described by Dick Harlow as "the best blocking back I've ever had."

Scheduled to take over Lamar's duties as head of the Jayvee squad is Floyd Stahl, coach of the Varsity baseball team and scout for the Varsity gridmen. Lamar is currently away on his vacation, however, so the change will not go into effect until sometime around September 1, when regular practice begins.

Pass Defense Stressed

With Harlow's return to Cambridge, informal practice starts today and will continue until September from 3:30 to 4:30 o'clock every afternoon. As far as is known now, emphasis during these sessions will be placed mainly on conditioning and teaching fundamentals to Freshmen, although upperclassmen are free to come out.

At the same time, the coaching staff apparently feels that the Crimson will come up against some stiff aerial attacks next fall, for the only element which larlow will stress between now and September, outside of fundamentals, is pass defense, one of the more intricate maneuvers in the game. Given a line which is up to par, the team should be extremely potent next fall if dick can instill adequate protection against a possible volley of passes.
