Navy School Regaled With Songs from Band

The sound of martial music filled the Yard yesterday evening as 30 members of the University Band marched in with platoon formation and a lusty one, two, three, four, to serenade the members of the Naval School.

Under the direction of Malcolm H. Holmes '28, the band played in a semi-circle around the flagpole until 8 o'clock when the flag was lowered to the sound of Retreat played by the Navy phonograph. Following that ceremony, the members of the Naval School raced for doorways in order to check in on time, but leaned from the windows where they continued to listen to the program.

Navy Medley Popular

The short program of five numbers included the familiar Harvard medley and the Navy medley, the latter being particularly popular with the Naval School, and the program was concluded by the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. The band then marched off toward the Music Building again chanting one, two, three, four, to the great amusement of the Naval students.

More music will be presented to the Summer School on Sunday, August 2, at 8 o'clock at the Sanders Theatre. G. Wallace Woodworth '24, associate professor of Music, and Holmes will direct the program.
