The summer athletic program for the Houses is just finishing its second week, and director Adolph Samborski '26, is well satisfied with the response to his modified summer schedule in face of the long labs that are keeping so many students busy and also the heat.
Because of the change in living arrangements for Freshmen, who now reside in the Houses instead of the Yard, the House sports setup has also been changed to include separate teams for Freshmen.
Program Started July 7
Inter-House contests in baseball, softball, and volleyball started Tuesday, July 7. In the baseball league, in which about eight games have been played, only one game a day is to be played in a round-robin tournament which will culminate in a championship tournament for the first four teams. Yesterday Leverett defeated Kirkland with a last inning rally to keep its perfect record of two wins and no defeats.
Leverett is also leading the pack in softball behind the line pitching of Tom Axon. A double round-robbin, with every House playing one another twice, is the plan for this league. There is also a separate tournament for '46 softball teams.
Crew Races Second Session
Upperclassmen and Freshmen are competing in a House volleyball round-robin, and in the future there will be inter-House tennis matches and crew races.
Right now each House is conducting two tennis tournaments, one for upperclassmen and one for Freshmen, and as soon as the rankings are made matches will begin. Freshman and upperclass crewmen are working out and receiving coaching at Newell Boat House in preparation for races to start in the second summer session.
