HARVARD WILL BROADCAST TO CAMBRIDGE

Conant, Atkinson to Talk; Network Directs Broadcast

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"Cambridge, U. S. A. calling Cambridge, England will go through the air today as Harvard makes contact with the often-bombed British university in a broadcast designed to tell the students of Cambridge how it is attempting to solve the problems of an academic community at war.

In the course of the program President Conant representing the Faculty, will deliver a one minute address concerning Harvard's role in the war effort. His speech was recorded yesterday through the facilities of the Harvard Film Service, since the President's previous commitments would not permit him to be present at today's 5 o'clock broadcast. Colonel John B. Atkinson, City Manager of Cambridge, will also speak, as the representative of this city, to tell the citizens of the original Cambridge that "we in this country appreciate their sacrifice."

Workshop Presents Script

Later in the broadcast the Crimson Network's Radio Workshop will present a short dramatic script, written by Harold C. Fleming '44, which will portray for the Cambridge University undergraduate the part that the individual Harvard student is playing in the emergency.

This is the first in a series of three broadcasts, under the auspices of WRUL, intended to bring the universities of England and America to a closer understanding. Yale will go on the air in a broadcast to England's other great university, according to WRUL's present schedule, when the Eli undergraduate radio station speaks to Oxford in a few weeks.
