PHINIZY ELECTED FOR IVY ORATION

Coles H. Phinizy '42, of Kirkland House and Ventnor, N. J., has been chosen for the position of Ivy Orator, Vern Miller '42, of the Class Day Committee, announced yesterday. Three men were engaged in the stiff competition for the traditional position.

Phinizy was a member of the Student Council and recently retired president of the Lampoon. During his Freshman year he won his numerals in football, swimming and track.

Oration Traditional

The Ivy Oration is a traditional institution given each year on Class Day. But this year, due to the fact that graduation has been moved up under the accelerated program, it will be given instead on the evening of June 6 in the triangle formed by the conjunction of Eliot, Winthrop, and Kirkland Houses, at the same time as the concert.

Long a part of the Harvard Commencement week, the Ivy Orations have always been bits of humour and wit intended to enliven the crowd. They are usually of five to ten minutes duration. Last year as a notable innovation two orators instead of the usual one spoke together in a humourous dialogue form.
