Nine Beats Favored Bruins In Topsy-Turvy Tussle, 6-5

In the most up and down ball game of its season, the Varsity nine yesterday afternoon snatched a last inning win from Brown by a 6 to 5 score. Totaling six hits and three errors, the Crimson made a far steadier showing than Brown's erratic eight singles and a half dozen miscues.

Going into the ninth frame, the Varsity led 4 to 3 and Sophomore Warren Berg on the mound seemed to have things under firm control. Then the Bruins, capitalizing on a dropped ball by Gerry Callanan at the plate and confusion of Brooks Heath on a long fly, went ahead to lead 5 to 4.

Harvard came up for last licks with visiting hurler Nick Nichols confident of victory. Billy Parsons pinch hit for Berg and was tossed out by Nichols. Then Cleo O'Donnell, subbing for Heath, drove a looper to center, advancing on Stort Waldstein's walk.

Bart Harvey slapped a long single to left sending Bill Haussermann, running for O'Donnell, home, Waldstein to third, and Nichols to the showers. Herb Ginsberg took the mound and promptly walked Ned Fitzgibbons, filling the bases. Then Bill Barnes boomed his third single of the contest to the left side lines. Waldstein scored the winning run and the game was over.
