Mains Hurls '45 Nine To 9-1 Win Over Latin

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Jim Mains established his claim to a starting role on the mound in the Yale game yesterday when he set Boston Latin down 9 to 1, allowing a meagre three hits, whiffing eleven men, and walking only two in an air-tight performance.

Latin was first to score, its lone tally coming in the third, but the Yardlings bounced back with single scores in the fourth and fifth, two in the sixth, and a four-run uprising in the eighth. Jim Gallagher, moved up to a lead-off position, liked the change immensely, weighing in with three singles.

Coach Adolph Samborski is trying to arrange a practice game with Belmont Hill some day this week. If this fails, the next appearance the Freshman will make is a battle with Exeter at Soldiers Field on Saturday.
