Yardling hurler Bud Mains won his own ball game yesterday, but it took him 16 innings, and three hours and 25 minutes to accomplish the task. Mains' fifth hit, a solid single along the left field line, gave the Freshmen a tedious 7 to 6 victory over the Northeastern Freshmen.
Northeastern had scored in the top half of the inning, breaking a tie which had existed from the eighth frame on, but the Crimson came back with tow to win. Jim Gallagher dropped a double into right field, advanced to third when George Casey was safe on opposing pitcher Ray Hamilton's miscue, and scored on Johnny Ready's bingle.
Tommy Ayres' sacrifice then advanced the runners to second and third, and Don Richards was walked intentionally. With the bases loaded, Hoss Hamlen went down swinging, but Mains' single broke up the party just as the shades of darkness drew on.
