Ten mid-year scholarship awards to Freshmen were announced by the Dean's office yesterday. Matthews inhabitants were the principal beneficiaries of these scholarships, three men from that Hall being represented.
Among the scholarships awarded were that of the Class of 1867, which is given regularly after the mid-year examinations to Freshmen; the Whitaker prize scholarship which is also awarded at mid-years to the Freshman who shows the most outstanding scholastic ability, and intellectual promise as indicated by distinction in studies and general achievement; and the Henry D. and Jonathan M. Parmenter scholarship of 1921, from which five of the recipients benefited.
It was also learned that various members of the administrative staff, including Dean Henry L. Chauncey '28 are now touring the mid-West, interviewing applicants for the national scholarships for the coming school year.
The winners of the mid-year awards are as follows:
Borden F. Beck, Jr., of Redmond, Oregen, and Farlow House--Edwards Whitaker midyear Scholarship.
Stephen T. Beggs, of Webster Groves, Missouri, and Matthews Hall Class of 1867 Scholarship.
Otto. A. Bremer, of Wheaton, Illineis, and Grays Hall Class of 1867 Scholarship.
Ernest J. Dicterich, of Akron, Ohio, and Matthews Hall Edwards Whitaker Prize Scholarship.
Henry D. and Jonathan M. Parmenter Scholarship: F. A. W. Hoffman do Vagujhely, of New York City, and Grays Hall; Saul G. Marias, of Brooklyn, and Matthews Hall; Samuel P. Perry, Jr., of Boston; Marvin H. Slcisinger of Pittsburgh, and Walker House; Edward W. Wagner, of Canton, Ohio, and the Union.
