VARSITY FOOTBALL MOVES OUTDOORS

Irregular Attendance, Lack Of Experience Worry Coach

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Coach Dick Harlow took his Varsity Football squad out doors for the first time Monday, and has conducted several hard, successful scrimmages lately. The main problem facing the coaches at the present time is the accelerated program, which causes continued changes in the personnel at practice.

One man, for example, has been playing blocking back, tackle, guard, and end. "One day," says Harlow, "we will have four blocking backs out, and the next there won't be any."

The team is "still pretty green," but several members of last year's aggregation, including Loren MacKinney, Chub Peabody, and Tom Gardiner, have been helping to whip the squad into some kind of shape.

Although no practice games with other colleges will be played, one is shaping up with several of the 1941 squad, augmented by coaches Earl Brown and Al McCoy.

Although for a while there was some hope that red-headed Don McNicol, powerhouse fullback from Flushing, N. Y., would be back this season, there is no chance of his return. He is spending his afternoons coaching the spring squad.
