Varsity Mermen Play Host to Lion Squad Tonight In Final Home Contest of Season

In its final home meet of the season, Harvard's Varsity swimming team engages a strong squad from Columbia tonight at 8:15 o'clock in the Indoor Athletic Building, while this afternoon the Crimson Yardlings swing into action against the Dartmouth Freshmen at Hanover in an effort to gain their seventh victory of the current campaign.

Paced by Sophomore David St. John, who gives promise of spectacular deeds to come, and Captain George Simihtsi the Lions have come up with a team this year which may well press the Crimson to the utmost before going down to probable defeat.

Faster Than Eusden

St. John is a free styler, who swims the 50 in about 24.1 seconds and the 100 in about 43.7 seconds, both times faster than those usually turned in by "Big John" Eusden, Coach Ulen's entry, in the same respective events.

Simihtsi, a breaststroker, navigates 200 yards in approximately two minutes and 39 seconds, but he should not phase Harvard's Bus Curwen, who crashed through with a 2:35.4 for the same distance in his last race.

League Standings Settled

Ulen should be able to count on Shaw McCutcheon and Brad Patterson taking a one, two in the dive and Bill Drucker to come in first in the 150 yard backstroke. The 220 yard free style and the 400 yard relay remain a toss-up, but Dave Barnes and George Christman should come through with at least a first and third in the 440 for the Crimson.

Tonight's meet will do little to affect the Eastern Intercollegiate League standings, no matter which team wins. The final positions of all the teams in the League seem to have been definitely settled, with the exception of Yale, which will doubtless clinch first place this evening by beating Princeton.
