Joining a host of sports luminaries who include some of the nation's foremost coaches, Bill Neufeld, Freshman track coach, left yesterday morning for the Naval Academy at Annapolis to begin a month's introductory course in preparation for service as a Naval Reserve officer.

Neufeld, selected with 200 others from a list of 6,000 applicants, will be trained to instruct future Navy pilots at the four new Navy pre-flight training schools to be located at the University of North Carolina, the University of Georgia, the University of Iowa, and St. Mary's College in California.

The Yardling mentor thus ended four years of Crimson coaching, during which time he aided Coach Jaakko Mikkola and turned out such products as Doug Pirnie and Johnny Herrick.
