Freshman Track Coach Leaves to Enter Navy

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

William Neufeld, Freshman track coach, has resigned his post with the University and has been offered a commission with the Navy, according to information received yesterday. The Yardling mentor, who came here from California in 1937, has accepted a position in the Navy's conditioning department.

In his stay here, Neufeld has handled five Freshman track and field teams, developing a number of superior runners. John Herrick, an IC4A winner of three years ago, as well as Doug Pirnie '42, stellar dash man on the Varsity this year, are both products of Neufeld tutelage.

Under the coaching system here, the Freshman track coach handles Varsity contestants in a number of events, and Neufeld has helped head coach Mikkola materially in this aspect in the last five seasons.
