Wilbur, Fancing In Three Weapons, Stars For Crimson

Showing great improvement over last Tuesday's performance against M. I. T., the Crimson Varsity loilsmen fenced Yale into a 17-10 defeat Saturday afternoon in the Indoor Athletic Building. The team turned in a really surprising total in the foils, winning the open and sabre by a much corer margin.

George Wilbur, a Sophomore who has shown great promise, was the star of the meet. Fencing in all three weapons. Wilbur won two out of three in the foils, two out of two in the epee, and one out of one in the sable.

Vaughan Takes Foils

Johnny Vaughan also starred, winning all three of his matches in the foils. Captain Joe Koch and George Wilbur won two out of three in the foils to give the Crimson an overwhelming victory in this weapon.

The Crimson swordsmen will meet real opposition this Friday and Saturday when they go down to New York for the Intercollegiate. Army, Yale, Navy, and Princeton are among the other teams participating. Army will be a strong threat in the foils will one of the best teams in years.

Yardlings Lose

Suffering a slump after beating M. I. T., the Yardling fencing team lost to Yale 18-9. The Blue took every weapon 6-3, an the Crimson failed to put on an expected into-season apart.

Epee: G. White '43 (II) defeated Stephen (V) 3-2, Boors (Y) 3-1, and lost to Bissell (Y) 0-3, G. Wilbur '43 (substitute) (II) defeated Boors (Y) 3-0, and Stephen (Y) 3-1, M. Olmated '44 (II) lost to Bissell (Y) 1-3. A. von Mohron '43 (II)defeated Boors (Y) 3-1, lost to Bissell (Y) 1-3, and Stephen (Y) 2-3.

Sabre: J. Ward '43 defeated Steinberg (Y)5-4, Markle (Y) 5-2, and lost to Masurki (Y) 2-5, II, Cooledge '44 defeated Steinberg (Y) 5-4, and lost to Masurki (Y) 2-5. G. Wilbur '44 defeated Fynch (Y) 5-1. R. MacNeal '44 defeated Morkle (Y) 5-3, lost to Masurki (Y) 3-5, and Steinberg (Y) 4-5.
