Graduation To Be One Week Earlier

Three Days Cut From Both Exam and Reading Periods

By cutting down on the spring reading period and on the final examination schedule, Commencement has been advanced a full week to June 11, it was announced Friday by the University.

Intended to release men planning to join the armed forces as soon as possible, as well as to provide a longer interval between the end of the academic year and the beginning of the summer term on June 29, the new date means that the Stadium exercises and confetti battle will not be held this year.

In addition to the loss of this traditional ceremony, Class Day will be simplified to include only the customary Senior exercises in the House Quadrangle, and the reunion classes are expected to plan briefer and more serious programs than in past years.

Three days have been cut from both reading and examination periods to make the new schedule possible. This year, the reading period will last from May 4, to May 23, and the last examination will be over on June 5.
