Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
The Crimson's latest sports champion, Truman Mitchell Ford '42, commonly known as Mike, should now be able to break his former records in his specialty, the pole vault. He has already smashed two Harvard all-time markers in this event, the first time with a leap of 13 feet, 11 1-4 inches at the Harvard-Yale meet this winter.
Then at the IC4A games recently, he took a second to the renowned Rich Moreum of New Hampshire a one-man field events team, bettering his own old hoist by 1-2 inch.
But a consignment of 12 new poles arrived at Briggs Cage this week, and new blend Mike will be able to do at least several inches better and should easily crack 14 feet. As a matter of fact, when he broke the record set by Emil Dubiel (who was a star end on several football teams, as well as a track star), during the Eli meet, officials watching the proceedings attest to the fact that he sailed well over the bar, clearing it by inches.
With the new poles, Crimson vaulters will be able to grasp the weapon further up, and will thus get more distance and hoist out of the bamboo rods.
