Naval Sci Will Hold Annual Visitor's Day Ceremonies

Before a host of dignitaries including Senator henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. '23, and Rear Admiral W. T. Tarrant, U.S.N., the NROTC Unit will hold its annual review at 3 o'clock this afternoon in Memorial Hall. Included in the official party will be the members of the Visiting Committee for Naval Science, University officials, and the Commandant of the First Naval District and staff.

Numbering about 300, the battalion, will parade into the drill hall where the visitors will be seated, and will march in six abreast in four companies. The battalion will be dressed, and the colors marched on and presented to the Color Company, the Second Company commanded by Student Lieutenant Thomas T. B. Godfrey.

The Unit will present arms, and the National Anthem will be played. Then the battalion is next put through the Manual of Arms and the special prizes are awarded. Passing in review by platoons before the reviewing stand, the Unit marches out.

Unit Will Disband

The Unit will disband, and about half of the students will demonstrate various types of Naval Training, while the remainder will show the guests around. Demonstrations will include such thing as flag hosting, signaling and fleet tactics, semaphore signaling, loading and pointing the four inch gun, a lecture on mines, and rifle and pistol firing on the range in the basement.

The Visiting Committee will include Robert H. Hallowell '96, Chairman; Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. '23; Langdon P. Marvin '98; Lieutenant Charles F. Adams, Jr., former Secretary of the Navy; Major General Roger W. Eckfeldt '12; Leon M. Little '10; and Brigadier General Oliver L. Spaulding.

Representing the University will be Dean Buck; Dean Hanford; Jerome D. Greene '96, Secretary of the Corporation; Dean Leighton; and Richard M. Gummere, Chairman of the Committee on Admission.

Among the company commanders are John Lowell '42, Tom Gardiner '42, Endicott "Chub" Peabody, II '42, and A. "Ted" Lyman '42.

The Massachusetts Society of the Sons of the Revolution prizes, to the Senior displaying outstanding interest, ability and general excellence in the performance of duty while on the summer cruise, and to the Junior having the highest scholastic standing for the two years of the Basic Course, will be awarded to William Wesselhoeft '42, and Maynard M. Miller '43 respectively.
