Chase Makes Coaching Debut Today As Unbeaten Yardlings Face Andover

John Chase makes his debut as Crimson hockey this afternoon, when the unbeaten Yardling sextet seeks its fifth straight win against an under par Andover outfit at the Boston Skating Club. Face-off time is 3 o'clock.

Two of Chase's topflight men, Orrin Wood and Art Leo, are on the sick list, and the Crimson starting line is composed of Tommy Ayres, moved from center to left wing, Bill Hamlen, who has been elevated to the center slot, and Ned Harding, operating from his customary left wing position.

On the defense, Bud Carstensen and Captain Dick Mechem get the nod for starting posts, and Gus Sommers, whose defensive play has limited the opposition to three goals in four encounters, guards the cage.

Varsity Has Practice Game

For the first time since midyears the Varsity hockey team swings into action tonight when it opposes the 97 Club in an informal match to be held at the Boston Skating Club. And in his start lineup for the second half of the hockey season, newly chosen coach Chase has made several changes over the last Crimson six to take the ice.

Chase, who dominated Harvard hockey before his graduation in 1928, has interchanged Gordy McGrath and Johnny Paine in the starting Harvard line. As of tomorrow night, the first Crimson will line with McGrath at center and Paine and George Gebelein on the wings.

Captain Greely Summers and George Dreher will team on the defense posts, and either Ab Fenn or Steve O'Neill will start in the nots. For a second line Albie Everts has been moved up from the thirds, and he will center a wave frank by Marc Beebe and Dick Harding.

The second defense is to be composed of Chuch Grifflth and Tom Cowen.
