Coach Peroy Takes 9 Men to Tournament at West Point

Hoping to repeat last year's victory, Coach Rene Peroy's undefeated Varsity swordsmen journey to West Point today to compete in the annual Pentagonal Championships. Also entered in this tournament, one of the most important eastern competitions, are Yale, Princeton, West Point, and Annapolis.

Last year, Harvard won first place in both the foil and saber divisions and came in second in epee. Crimson fencers also took first individual honors in foil and saber and second in epee. Navy came in second, Army third.

Team is Undefeated

The team so far this year is undefeated, having beaten Brown 14 to 13 and Amherst 17 1/2 to 9 1/2.

Only two members of last year's team returned, Captain Joe Koch and Johnny Vaughan, both foilsmen. This division, which includes George Wilbur, is probably the strongest having won 5 to 4 in the first meet and 7 to 2 in the second.

Saber is a little weak this year although the trio of John Ward, Harry Cooledge, and Dick MacNeal seem to be improving. After losing 5 to 4 to Brown, they managed to nose out Amherst by the same score last week.

The epee team beat Brown 6 to 3 and Amherst 5 1/2 to 3 1/2. Fencing epee will be George White, Art von Mehren, and Mike Olmsted. White has won all six of his matches so far, making nine touches and losing only one in each meet, and is expected to do well in the tournament.
