Ten thousand members of R.O.T.C. training courses will become officers in the Army this year, Major Morton Smith, F.A., adjutant of Harvard Regiment, has announced. This number is about the same as it was before the outbreak of hostilities, because the government has not appreciably enlarged the Reserve training courses, Smith added.
"During the last war compulsory training was instituted at many Universities, but such action has not been repeated due to the substitution of compulsory training courses at land grant schools, and optional instruction at endowment colleges," the major stated.
Smith asserted that no word had reached headquarters here of any change in the R.O.T.C. program for the coming year. The only modification that has been made is the elimination of the summer training period.
