Undefeated Pennsylvania yesterday wiped out any glory the Varsity wrestling team may have experience by detesting Columbia Saturday when they drew the Crimson over the coals with a 24-0 shutout. Earlier on the weekend schedule the Varsity had downed the Lions in the final heavyweight match 19-15.
The Freshman grapplers lost to Exeter Saturday in the Indoor Athletic Building 14-13 in a close match. One hundred and thirty-six pound Ed Rothman of the Yardlings gained the only five point decision of the day when his opponent threw out his arm and was forced to default. Gus Hemenway and Doug Barr won for the Crimson while heavyweight Dick Albion was awarded a draw.
Gain Six Match Points
In yesterday's Varsity contest, the Harvard matmen were able to garner only six intra-match points, five by Captain Dick Thomas and one by 136-pound Harry Blain. Those tow bouts and Don Miles' 6-0 shutout were the only three of the eight matches the visiting grappler were unable to take by falls.
At Columbia Saturday, Tom Rogstad threw Larry Bangser in 4:28 minutes in the final and deciding match. Up to that point that Lions were leading by a one point margin. Among the other Harvard victors in that meet were Harry Blain, Captain Dick Thomas, Don Miles, and Lee Sosman.
It was revealed last night that Jim Redmon, playing-manager who held down the Varsity 136-pound position, is out for the season with his injured knee, which the doctors have been unable to remedy. Redmon was one of the team's most talented and clever wrestlers.
