Showing his heels to the best that the Crimson track squads had to offer, Roy Cochran of Indiana, holder of the world's Indoor record in the 440, rounded the wooden track in the Briggs Cage yesterday afternoon faster than it has ever been circumnavigated before.
According to Jaakko Mikkola, veteran track mentor, his time for the 440 run was 48:8, only six-tenths of a second more than his record. He was paced during part of his workout yesterday by Ted Withington, the speedy Yardling who smashed an Exeter record in the 300 last Saturday.
Cochran is training for a race in New York this weekend, where he will try to repeat his recent successes in the Milirose and B. A. A. meets.
