Psychologists Study Morale of Civilians

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Realizing the importance of the psychological side of civilian morale in the war, a seminar of 30 students in Psychology 231 under the supervision of Gordon W. Allport '19 and Henry A. Murray '15, associate professors of Psychology, is helping government fact-finding and private morale-building agencies by preparing worksheets on morale.

The worksheets are pamphlets outlining a method for the comprehensive study of a particular subject. Last semester the seminar prepared 18 of these on such topics as "Hitler--the man," and "The ABC's of Wartime Rumor."

Official Request Made

So successful were the worksheets that an official request was made that these studies of morale be continued and extended. Accordingly, the movement was expanded to 23 other universities from coast to coast.

Morale measurement in Cambridge is one of the subjects that the students are treating this semester. They are also making a special study of morale factors in pre-invation France.
