Elis Will Chop Wood And Scale Walls to Get Tough

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Wood-chopping and ditch-digging will be the lot of Yale students when they appear for compulsory athletics under the new plan to make the Elis strong enough for the army.

Manual labor in all branches will be stressed by the program, which will call students to action three times a week. Far from being recreational, the nearest the periods will come to athletics will be jumping, wall scaling, and obstacle running.

Only exception in the drive to equip students for service in the armed forces will be in the case of participants in seasonal sports. Men on the football team will not be required to practice for the Harvard game by splitting rails, but as soon as the season is over they will come back to the axe.
