Chief Boston Leaves For Army

Clarence "Chief," Boston '39, wrestling and Freshman football coach, yesterday resigned his position to take up his commission as a second lieutenant in the field artillery. Announcement of Boston's resignation was made by Director of Athletics William J. Bingham '16, who also stated that Jay E. Ricks, former M. I. T. coach, has been appointed to succeed him.

This afternoon's Freshman meet with Andover will comprise the Chief's last coaching duties for the duration. He will go on active duty with the commission he received in the Harvard R.O.T.C. unit after a physical examination.

Blocked in Stadium

In his college days, Chief was Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Champion and the blocking back on Bobby Green's gridiron eleven. He taught English and French and coached football and wrestling after graduation at the University School, Cleveland.

On returning to Harvard, Boston coached the Yardling gridders for two seasons and last year the Yardling grapplers. This winter he added the burden of the Varsity wrestling team.
