Led by Arthur L. Besse '42, a field of six bicycle racers sped to the Wheaton College campus Saturday in the Harvard Bicycle Racing Club's second event of the yar.
With a time of 1.23:51, Besse was followed very closely by Edward H. Harding '45, who was running his first race. The remaining placers included John Stern '45, third, John Parrish '45, who was only a half second behind Stern, and Tom Allen '45, head of the club.
Wheaton Welcomes Racers
In addition to the racers several cyclists toured down earlier in the day to prepare the welcoming committee of over forty Wheaton girls which greeted the tired participants as they peddled in. After the race the riders spent a pleasant evening swimming, dancing, and sampling the various facilities for amusement on the Wheaton campus and the spent the right before riding back to Cambridge.
Starting at West Roxbury and ending up in Norton where the school is located, the 28 mile course was considered excellent by all who raced, since it is fairly level and has good road surfaces.
No more races are scheduled for this fall, but tentative plans for a series of touring trips have been made. These trips will enable more men to participate in the club's activities, since many are hesitant to join a regular race, and will serve as excellent training for runs in the spring.
