Rain Drives Squad Into Briggs Cage

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Taking refuge from a cold November rain, the football team had a long workout in Briggs Cage yesterday afternoon, stressing pass defence and pass offense in preparation for Michigan this Saturday.

Kicks by Wally Flynn, Jack Comeford, and Don Richards were resounding off the comparatively low ceiling of the cage in the first stage of the practice.

Richards on A Team

For the first time since the Penn game, Richards held down the first string wingback spot from which he made his two sensational runs that set up touchdowns for Harvard against the Orange and Black.

Jack Graf, all-Conference fullback at Ohio State last year and now at the Business School, did a good job of impersonating Michigan's flashy passers while the Crimson went through a lengthy pass defense session. Michigan has two dangerous right-handers in Tom Kuzma and Bob Chappius plus the threat from the left of Paul White. Besides having played against the Maize and Blue just last fall when Ohio State tied them 20-20, Graf has scouted Michigan's games with Northwestern and with Illinois last week.

Comeford Hits the Mark

Harvard's own passing attack got a good airing with Comeford hitting the bullseye often, floating a few into the arms of his touchdown twin, Gordy Lyle.

Charlie Gudaltis occupied the left guard post on the A team for most of the final signal drill although George Hibbard started at the spot. In the B line, Bob Byrnes, after taking his turn this season at blocking back, guard, and left tackle, finally wound up at right tackle yesterday.

Sid Smith, for the first time since a leg injury laid him low, was on the B team line alternating with Wally Kamp at right guard. Today will be the last real team workout for the game at Ann Arbor since there will only be time for a short practice tomorrow before the players board the train.
