NEW ORLEANS--President Roosevelt today called on leaders of organized labor in the interests of national unity to make an "unselfish, a farsighted and patriotic" effort to end their five-year war.

Mr. Roosevelt received prompt assurance from William Green, head of the American Federation of Labor in convention here, that the peace committee of his organization would be empowered to discuss a plan to restore harmony with a similar group from the rival Congress of Industrial Organizations.
