Official Deadline For ERC Set at December 1

Enlisted Reserve Corps enlistments for men in college, including those under 18, will close, not to be reopened, on December 1, Elliot Perkins '23, director of the War Service Information Bureau, warned students yesterday.

The statement follows:

"I should like to remind men in college that the First Service Command has announced the closing of Enlisted Reserve Corps enlistments on December 1. This is a different matter from the administrative closing of enlistments by this office on October 20. The Enlisted Reserve Corps will not be reopened this time.

"Because of a change in bookkeeping methods there are Enlisted Reserve Corps vacancies in all classes.

"It is not the function of this office to proselyte for any branch of the service; but anyone planning to make up his mind had better do so quickly. It takes time to enlist men, and an application filed shortly before December 1 may not get through the machinery in time for enlistment on that date.

"The whole situation remains uncertain, but it is safe to say that anyone planning to join the Enlisted Reserve Corps, or Navy V-1, V-5, or V-7, will be well advised to move in the matter quickly. The new draft act may greatly restrict freedom of action."
