Striking tough opposition after only one week's practice, the Freshman soccer team bowed to a superior Medford High eleven 3-1, at Medford yesterday. The contest, planned as a practice game, gave the Yardlings their first taste of action in the 1942 campaign.

Medford jumped to a lead in the second period when two goals were pushed by unprotected Crimson goalie Frye. Harvard countered with a marker by Tom Burrowes in the third, but Medford passing accounted for another goal and the victory in the last quarter.

Outstanding in the Freshman opener, forward Burrowes and goalie Frye will lead the team in their next battle, against Governor Dummer on October 14. Following the game, Varsity manager Dick Allen '44 issued a call for all Sophomores and Freshmen to report for the Freshman managerial competition which will open this week. Allen stated that no earlier contact with soccer is necessary for participation in the competition, which will last for the duration of the season.
