West Point Eleven Topples Crimson Junior Varsity 21-0

Cadet Success Due To Straight Power

Displaying a bone-crushing attack that gave a nearly accurate preview of the Varsity game, the West Point Jayvees went the regulars one better by scoring three touchdowns to top the Crimson Junior Varsity 21 to 0 Saturday morning.

The Cadets took a long time to get started, since they were pretty well shackled in the first half, but they broke loose in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns with extra points to match. They scored another seven points in the final period to sew up the ball game.

This was the second victory for Major Harvey Jablonsky's eleven, which nosed out Yale 7 to 6 a month ago. For the Crimson, it marked the second straight loss of the combined Jayvee-Freshman squad, after both teams had won once by themselves.

It was power all the way that won for the West Pointers. In fact, all three of their touchdowns were scored by straight power bucks through the line, and by the two backs who had been smashing the Lamarmen's forward wall all morning.

Captain Hal Parfitt, a short, chunky powerhouse who operated from the wingback post, sparked his team during the entire game and went over for one of the third-period touchdowns. The other half of the Army scoring combination was Johnnie Janeczk, who scored twice and alternated with Parfitt in the wingback position.
