In accordance with a Cambridge city order, all resident students of the University who own bicycles will be required to register them sometime within the next couple of weeks.
Although a deadline has not yet been set, bicycle owners should file an application at the Cambridge police station near Central Square, as soon as possible. The registration will cost 25 cents, or $1 if late application is made.
Only students who have already registered their bikes with another community in this state are exempt from this requirement. The make of the bicycle, model number, and manufacturer's serial must be filed with the police, in return for which a metal license plate will be issued.
Commuting students who live outside the city do not have to register their bicycles in Cambridge, although many other communities are also requiring bicycle registration.
